The Dance Shop II
A New Movement in Dance Education
Every class at the Dance Shop II is designed to provide proper training and dance technique, and above all, to be FUN for our students!
In addition to dance technique and strength training, proper facilities are key to the development of a young dancer without unnecessary injury.
The dance floor in our studio is a sprung oak dance floor constructed of three layers of board arranged to absorb shock.  This kind of floor was created to protect the ankles, knees, hips and backs of dancers.

Children's Ballet/Creative Movement
Prior to age 8 or 9, a child is not ready for the rigorous and difficult discipline of formal dance training.  This is why we offer programs that are fun, but gradually prepare the young dancer for more formal training.  Our Children's Ballet/Creative Movement program was created to provide young children with their first exposure to structured movement ideas.  Each class offers experiences in beginning rhythms, music and exercise.
Hip Hop
The contemporary dance moves taught in the Hip Hop classes are age appropriate, yet representative of the Hip Hop culture.  Hip Hop often serves as a gateway to other dance styles and we encourage our Hip Hop students to explore the various techniques in order to elevate their skills and performance quality.

Jazz
Our Jazz program focuses on the isolation of body parts and mind/body coordination. Strength, balance, control and placement as well as body awareness and focus are also emphasized.  Broadway jazz, lyrical jazz as well as jazz-funk styles are offered by our versatile staff.

Ballet
Our Ballet classes are extensive classes using classical music where special attention is placed on proper placement of the body, ease and grace in movement, balance, strength and muscle control.  Ballet classes begin with a traditional barre, adagio center floor and traveling movements and variations across the floor.
Modern Dance
Contemporary Modern dance classes include a warm-up on the floor to make the students' spine loose and articulate.  Standing floor work helps develop strength, flexibility, balance and coordination.  Across the floor combinations develop spacial awareness and musicality through falls, leaps and turns.

Tap
Our Tap program emphasizes rhythm and musicality through a vocabulary of tap steps and combinations that allow our students to quite literally create music.  Broadway tap, rhythmic tap and funky tap styles are offered for beginner to advanced level dancers.
